With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We played an amazing show the night before the lockdown began - we played at the Wise Hall with Bad Magic, The Fallaways, and Brass Camel. Literally, the next day, everything shut down, it was the best final hoorah!
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I had planned a cross- Canada tour, as well as my first EP release. I was releasing the EP as a series of singles with accompanying videos, and the first release was set to happen on March 28th 2020. I was on the fence about whether to release them without a tour, but decided to stay on track anyway. I released each song over the course of the year, with the last single release happening on March 28th of this year.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
This year I have been focusing a lot on creating content, writing a ton of new material, and I have been collaborating with artists and projects that are outside of my usual genre. It's been really awesome to expand my writing skills, and work with so many awesome friends. Collaborations this year have included: Fort Knox Five, Five Alarm Funk, Gabe Boothroyd, Lemming Dynasty, Bad Magic, Elle Wolf, Reverend and the Rebel, and Jupiter...and a few more that I can't quite release yet, but keep an eye on my music page! Keep your eye out for a new project announcement as well, it's coming soon, and I am very excited!
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
I was super lucky to play a show with my full band at the Firehall Arts Centre before the fourth wave really came into effect, and joined my friends Bad Magic at the Rickshaw a few weeks ago for their show with Bend Sinister and Brass Camel, which was an epic evening... But at the moment I am not booking any new gigs. So many gigs are being cancelled and rescheduled at the moment, that I am looking at the spring for shows. Looking to tour in the UK and Europe next year!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Be kind to yourself and each other! The world is insane right now, and kindness goes a long way <3
